Elvis is back and better than ever. And, this time he’s getting a little help from famous supermodel Kate Moss. How can this be? Isn’t Elvis dead? According to some “Elvis experts”—no, he isn’t dead. For those of us who believe that the King truly left us, we’re curious about how Elvis is making headlines again.
Back in 2015, Priscilla Presley produced an Elvis album, pairing archived footage of the singer’s soulful voice with London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. According to W Magazine, the album entitled If I Can Dream, hit number one on the charts in both Australia and the UK.
With the success of If I Can Dream, Mrs. Presley decided to produce another album this year. This second posthumous Elvis album is sure to make hearts swoon with the single The Wonder of You. According to Rolling Stone, the album, also entitled The Wonder of You, spans multiple musical genres. Listeners will get to enjoy archived audio footage of Elvis singing rock, gospel, operatic, country, and balladry.
While the main attraction to this album is Elvis’ beautiful and sexy voice, the main attraction to the music video is Kate Moss. The former supermodel has been in a multitude of music videos since her heyday in the 1990s. She’s been the music video muse for Paul McCartney, Johnny Cash, Elton John, The White Stripes, Primal Scream, Marianne Faithfull, and now Elvis Presley.
Moss has portrayed everything from a bored socialite meeting her doppelganger in a haunted house, to pole dancer, to a Bond villainess. In this latest video, the director had her don a white, bedazzled jumpsuit in honor of Elvis. According to The Guardian, it’s an outfit she wears well. Throughout the black and white video, Moss lounges on a couch, dances around, and lip-syncs to the Elvis song. It’s the ultimate karaoke video.
Many people wonder whether this particular collaboration will prove to be Moss’ best music video ever. The Guardian reviewers were only slightly impressed, giving it a score of six out of ten. While they loved her dancing around in her modern take of Elvis’ 1960-1970s jumpsuit, they thought there were some dull moments. They felt this way particularly when she was just lounging around. While gorgeous as ever, Moss simply looked like a Michael Bublé video extra. Others disagree, saying this video was shot with a mixture of fun and grace.
Either way, this will be just one more notch in Kate Moss’ music video belt. It’s definitely a fun experience for her; after all, how many people can say they’ve collaborated with the likes of Paul McCartney, Johnny Cash, Elton John, and even Elvis? However, Moss isn’t reliant on the popularity of this music video to keep her afloat financially. She’s quite the businesswoman. Moss started her own modeling firm and will be launching a product line shortly.
As far as Elvis goes, he will be more popular than ever. While the singer is no longer with us, his spirit and music will live on forever. This is evidenced not only by the fact that he’s collaborating with the likes of Kate Moss and has released two posthumous albums but by the fact that he continues to be an inspiration to other artists. For instance, according to W Magazine, Elvis is the “unofficial inspiration for Coach’s Spring 2017 runway show.”
Love them or hate them, Presley and Moss will be forever remembered for this soon-to-be iconic music video. The archived vocals bring back memories of when we first fell in love with Elvis. And, the video reminds everyone why Kate Moss became an international success.
