Carrie Fisher has finally opened up about the affair with Harrison Ford. When she appeared on The Graham Norton Show, she discussed the relationship that she had mentioned in her memoir The Princess Diarist.
According to EW, the actress said that she was embarrassed and felt guilty about the publicity that her story received.
She estimates that more than 400,000 news websites picked up the story, and when Norton suggested that Ford must talk about the affair for the rest of his life, Fisher stated that she hadn’t thought of that consequence when she revealed the affair in her book.
Harrison Ford Teased about the Affair
During the Ambassadors for Humanity gala dinner, James Corden took a few stabs at attendee Harrison Ford about his headline-making affair with Carrie Fisher, reports Vanity Fair.
Fisher broke the news about their secret 40-year old affair, and Corden made jokes about how he would never talk about their fling in public, and especially not in a book. He was quoted as saying that Harrison Ford looked “sexy as ever” that night.
The look on Ford’s face made it clear that he was more than capable of taking a joke about the affair. In fact, he smiled and shook his head in disagreement. The people at his table, including George Lucas and Spielberg, both laughed at the joke.
During the event, Ford was in good spirits. He was there to lend his support to the annual gala that benefits the U.S.C. Shoah Foundation. He was there among friends like Kathleen Kennedy, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and JJ Abrams.
Harrison Ford has been notorious for enjoying his privacy. And he has not made any public comments about the affair that Fisher has talked rather publicly about. She did state that the relationship ended when the movie was filmed, and that Ford is probably bugged about the revelation in her book and how much publicity it has received since it was published.
Ford, now 74, was married to his wife Mary Marquardt at the time. They had split in 1979. The film released a year later.
At the time of the affair, Fisher was 19 and Ford was 33. Their romance ended decades ago, and Fisher said that she was inexperienced, but that Ford was kind and there was something about him that drew her to him.
A representative for Ford has declined to make any comments on the matter, reports ABC News.
The two were recently seen on The Force Awakens movie together, and while filming, they were said to be in good spirits toward one another.
Fisher admits that no one knew about the affair back when it occurred. She even joked that Ford didn’t know it was happening.
Now that Fisher has seen the blowback from her revelation in her book, she has made it clear to the public that she regrets revealing the affair tremendously, and feels guiltier that Ford will have to talk about it the rest of his life.
